Young People

bulletChurch School using the Godly Play format meets during the school year in the Education Building from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Sundays from September through May. Classes for ages 3 through grade 5.

Jr. High & Sr. High Youth Groups are studying the Gospel reading for each Sunday and learning guitar chords and how to sing and play praise music.  Open to grades 6 through 12.

New Beginnings retreats by and for youth grades 6-9 are held twice yearly at the Diocesan Domain.

Happening retreats by and for youth grades 10-12 are held twice yearly at the Cathedral Domain.

Confirmation Classes are scheduled as needed.

A Vacation Bible School is held each summer. It is sponsored jointly with St. Thomas Lutheran Church. 

bulletSummer Camps for all ages are scheduled throughout the summer at the Cathedral Domain.

College Students

Berea College - Canterbury Fellowship meets for discussion.  A meal usually follows the service.  Trips and service opportunities are planned throughout the year.

bulletEKU - Episcopal Campus Ministries meets monthly. The first meeting will be at the EKU Powell Building, Conference Room F on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at 6:00 p.m.  Upcoming events include a Lessons and Carols Service at the Meditation Chapel at EKU on December 9, 2008 at 7:00 p.m.  This will be a joint service with St. Thomas Lutheran Church with and invitation for students to participate.  Contact Elaine Saunders for more information (ubsafe2@hotmail.com).

Fellowship

bulletPotluck Lunch is served at noon on the second Sunday each month. Plan and dress for a picnic on the grounds in seasonable weather.

Social events are planned throughout the year to promote community life and celebrate special occasions. The seasons of Advent and Lent are traditionally marked by joint potluck suppers shared with St. Thomas Lutheran Church. The Choir sponsors annual parties at Epiphany and Easter Eve. Other events include a Sunday School kickoff in September.

Men's Group Breakfast is the second Saturday of each month in the Parish house at 8:30 a.m.  Whether we follow St. Chrysostom's prayer of "when two or three are gathered..." to a handful of the faithful gathered, a hearty breakfast is provided for fellowship and conversation.

Discipleship

bullet Adult Christian Formation meets each Sunday during the school year at 9:45 a.m. to discuss a  variety of topics.  This fall we will be discussing a variety of lay led topics including: Christians and the Environment, Caring for Aging Parents, Dealing with Family Violence.  We will also be doing studies on the books of James and  Daniel.
bulletMen's Bible Study Group meets most every Monday evening throughout the year at 6:30 p.m. for a meal with Bible study from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Episcopal Church Women Connecting (ECW)  Our ECW chapter has been  reorganized! On Thursday, September 17th a group of women met in the Parish House for the ECW Christmas Bazaar planning, and to revitalize our Episcopal Church Women’s group. Becky Arthur and Amy McCormick were elected co-chair, Becky Kingsley, Secretary and Leslie Farris, Treasurer. Plans were made for the disbursement of funds from last years Bazaar.  Among the projects the ECW plans to support are the ERD Hurricane Relief Fund, the children’s Sunday School program, the parish kitchen (coffee and paper goods are among the items that come to mind) and they are looking into the purchase of some new acolyte vestments.  Plans were made for this year’s annual Christmas Bazaar which will be held on Saturday, December 6.                               

bulletA Daughters of the King (DOK) chapter meets monthly to foster prayer, evangelism, and service. The chapter maintains a telephone prayer chain for pastoral matters. The DOK sponsors quiet days, an annual Assembly, and a Fall Retreat.
 

Sunday Worship

bulletAcolytes and servers of all ages help with worship at the altar at all Sunday services.  Torch bearers are a recent addition to enrich our worship.

Altar Guild members prepare and care for the altar and altar furnishings. These dedicated folks arrange flowers, wash linens, prepare the wine, water, and bread for Eucharist and set the altar with the colorful hangings that mark the turn of seasons. Instruction is available.

Choir director Jane Rainey is alert for persons who enjoy singing or play an instrument.  Seasonal singers are welcome, especially for special music during the Christmas and Easter seasons.

Greeters help visitors find their way and to feel at home.

Lay Eucharistic Visitors take communion to those confined to home and hospital.

Lectors from the congregation read the lessons and lead the prayers Sunday mornings.

Ushers help with seating, collection of offerings and presentation of Gifts.

Members participate in many other mission societies and programs such as Food for the Poor, Christian Appalachian Project, South American Missionary Society, Anglican Frontier Missions, Marriage Encounter, etc., to care for brothers and sisters in Christ across geographical and cultural boundaries. Ask around and see the bulletin boards.
