Parish Outreach

Our commitment to Outreach is best articulated by our vision statement “The World will know the love of God through St. Raphael’s.”  Among the community-based programs currently supported by our parish are St. Agnes House, a temporary home for patients and their caregivers during their stays in Lexington for cancer treatments, and Virginia Place, a housing facility for single-parent students and their children.

Many other outreach opportunities are available for parishioners throughout the year, including:

  • Christmas Angel Tree to provide presents for needy children

  • Diocesan Reading Camp - volunteers and scholarship support

  • Diocesan Prison Ministry

  • Crop Walk to raise funds and awareness for hunger

  • United Thank Offering

  • The Starfish Program supporting the Diocese of Haiti

  • An onsite food pantry for those in need

In addition to the above, St. Raphael’s was proud to support two groups from the parish who journeyed to Mississippi to aid Katrina victims, and a nurse who journeyed to Central America to provide surgical team support.

We recently worked with the Kentucky Refugee Center to sponsor a family of seven from the Congo.  Our parish provided complete furnishings for their apartment, clothes, school supplies, a computer and transportation.  We assisted the father in getting his driver’s license, and a parishioner donated funds to buy a used car.  We were overjoyed that we were able to assist in establishing a new family in America.
